Insurance Council of BC Proposed Accreditation Program for Continuing Education Courses and Suppliers - December 23, 2021
Our response compliments the Insurance Council of BC on its proposed accreditation program for continuing education courses and suppliers. We thank the Council for recognizing continuing education requirements that are undertaken in a non-resident’s home jurisdiction.

Our response to the new innovation framework aims to help FSRA fine-tune its approach. We ask for wider exemptive powers for FSRA’s CEO and easier movement of new programs from test phase to market.

Our submission supports FSRA’s objectives and recommends that guidelines ensure neutrality in enforcement communications, acknowledging the fact that insurers often self-report.

BC Insurance Council consultation on Rule 6(1)(b) – August 12, 2021 Our comments support the revised amendment on Location Restrictions for Level 1 General Insurance Salespersons.

FSRA Notice of Proposed Rule and Request for Comment [2020-018]: Unfair and Deceptive Acts or Practices (UDAP) – August 11, 2021 Our follow-up comments on revisions to the proposed rule call for more communication and consultation on additions that may be too prescriptive. 

CISRO’s proposed Principles of Conduct for Intermediaries – 9 July 2021 Our submission asks CISRO to exempt companies that are already compliant with Fair Treatment of Customers (FTC) Guidance. We also recommend changes to ensure consistency with FTC Guidance and other frameworks.

BC Insurance Council consultation on Rules 5 and 6(1)(b) - May 14, 2021 Our submission asks BC to phase-in any rate increases to avoid significant impacts on our members, and we call for exemptions from the six-month in-office period for agents of companies with robust onboarding and training procedures.

Ontario 21-MOF004 – Proposed new regulation under the Insurance Act with respect to the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) exemption orders under section 15.1 of the Act - April 1, 2021 Our submission supports the regulatory changes relating to electronic communications, responds to specific questions, and notes the need for further changes to regulations covering home and commercial property insurance.

Ontario 21-MOF002 - Amendments to regulations made under the Insurance Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act regarding the delivery of automobile insurance notices and other auto insurance documents - March 29, 2021 Our submission approves regulations that support the use of regulatory sandboxes. It calls specific measures to allow nation-wide replication of successful outcomes.

FSRA Notice of Proposed Rule and Request for Comment [2020-018]: Unfair and Deceptive Acts or Practices (UDAP) – March 18, 2021 Our submission looks at ways the proposed rule can protect and enhance Ontarians’ ability to find insurance plans that are tailored to their specific requirements. We call on FSRA to make sure its new rule protects insurers’ ability to keep finding innovative solutions to meet the needs of customers.

The Consumer Reporting Act – Proposals under consideration for providing access to security freezes, credit scores and reports – March 12, 2021 Our submission supports giving consumers the choice to lower their auto insurance rates by allowing insurers to use their credit histories. We also support giving consumers free annual access to their credit scores.
